Just what are FLEATHERS and how are they made? They are feather shaped jewelry that is created from leather. People look at them and think they are made out of enameled metal, ceramic, feathers that have been treated in plastic and then painted, plus a lot of other ideas they may have. Very few will guess that they are made from leather. It is a very long process involved in creating our FLEATHERS. As with all of our products, they are totally hand-crafted. First the feather shapes are drawn onto the leather and then each one is cut and tooled. There are 7 different knives used in this process. The FLEATHERS are then rubbed with a leather stain to help stiffen them when they dry. Just before drying they are shaped and once dry they keep whatever shape they have been put in. Painting then follows. The FLEATHERS are all hand-painted, using some acrylic paints but mostly using an iridescence fabric paint. After painting, a clear acrylic finish is brushed on, front and back to help the FLEATHERS keep it's shape and to protect it from dust and water.
We presently have 20 different styles. Some are singles and other sets are double feathers on each earring. Prices range from $37.50 to $69.95.
